this past week we haven't been doing much except cutting and drawing and rotoscoping,
but what we're doing is highly satisfying.
after you're done,
you look at the many pieces of cardboard lying on the table,
neatly cut out,
and (intentionally) messily hand-drawn,
and you can say to yourself,
WELL DONE.
i can't wait to see how it'll turn out!

check our facebook page for more updates and exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and videos!
here's the first four parts of our documentary,
just in case you don't have facebook.
it documents the stupid stuff we do when we're not working.
eleanor will kill me for this,
but ah well (:
nobody can kill the AMAZING CARMEN :DDD

EPISODE I: 25 November 2009 - In this episode, we explore the basics of making coffee and using the toilet!

EPISODE II: 26 November 2009 - In this episode, we explore the fascination of breaks and experience a real-life blackout! Ooh!

EPISODE III: 26 November 2009 - In this episode, we learn more about jellybeans! Doesn't everybody love jellybeans?

EPISODE IV: 26 November 2009 - In this episode, we explore the curious case of the rabbit in the pants! Um, it's a rabbit, isn't it..?

23 November 2009

today was our first day of pre-production for nemation.
it was much worse than we expected.
we knew we had to do a lot of work;
the trainers were sure to constantly remind us about that.
but we didn't expect to lag behind the schedule even on the first day.

we hardly managed to draw and cut half of what we had to do,
and we didn't even touch the rotoscoping and video footage on the computer.
principle shooting isn't even done.
we are so in deep shit.
i dunno how many days we have to OT;
probably every day.

i'm so tired now.
the journey home is terribly long.

cutting was a terrible pain.
we're using some sort of cardbord which is really hard to cut,
even with sharp razors and penknives.
jean and i,
who were supposed to be the cutters for the day,
kept exclaiming when our pieces were like 1mm or less off,
because it meant that despite the very very slight error,
we had to redraw the whole thing.
irritating right?
worst part is cutting the curved and irregular shapes;
i had to do a lot of that.
it was terrible.

in the end eleanor and liz had to abandon the rotoscoping for the day and help us instead.
-cue dramatic music-
our fingers hurt,
and our back ached,
but we pressed on.

i can see weeks of hell ahead of me.

no more happy apollo-breaks,
no more playing chicken invaders and chuzzle and peggle and all those weird games,
no more laughing and crazy pictures of eleanor.
we simply don't have time for such stuff anymore.
we'll be 10x busier than we were last year.
joshua says that last year we were one of the first groups to complete our animation,
but this year we'll probably be the last.
well,
at least we get the biggest studio in the room :D
it's like double or more the size of other groups' studios.

let's talk about happier things.
well,
at least things that make me feel happier.
yesterday i realised that terence cao is a dj.
he doesn't do it as a job lah,
unlike those at zouk, the butter factory, st. john's power station and stuff.
but i guess he does have some skills.
considering the amount of time he spends at clubs,
i shouldn't be surprised.
but i still am.

dear blog,
sorry for neglecting you.
in my past 3 weeks of absence,
so much has happened,
and yet none of which are really worth mentioning.
the little perks of my life since the last post have all been mentioned on my twitter.
i’m sorry,
but micro-blogging is so much more convenient than um blogging.
so to my beloved readers who have missed me so,
my advice to you is:
GET TWITTER.
it’s so much faster,
and so much more fun.
if you still don’t want to,
there’s always the last resort;
if you have noticed,
all my tweets are posted in the “twitter” section in the side-bar.
you can still read them from there.

but as a form of apology for neglecting unonumbero.bs,
i shall just briefly touch on what has happened so far.

the last week of october was mostly a hectic schedule of practices and rehearsals for sound of hope.
but despite all the practices,
we still screwed up under the sea.
TWICE.
for both nights we didn’t start properly.
it’s very irritating.
at least our phantom of the opera was alright.

my first week of november was quite boring i guess.
we still had to go back to school for extra chinese lessons in the morning,
in preparation for the o levels.
every day after the lessons i’d just go home and use the computer lor.
you guys know what i do lah,
no need to list out.
just that i haven’t been watching youtube videos that faithfully anymore,
since my computer was moved out of my room into the study.
it’s just weird that my mum keeps peeping at what i’m doing on the computer.
and because of this,
i’ve also cut down on the amount of collegehumor i’ve been watching.
i’ve missed out on a lot D:

last week monday i decided to 放轻松,
so I stupidly went on a mythbusters rampage,
since i borrowed like 12 cd’s worth of episodes from the library.
i watched like 9 45min episodes until i got a headache.

on tuesday we had o level Chinese.
paper 1 was okay i guess,
Though i think i screwed up my format for gong han.
i can’t believe i actually went to 祝!
good thing i cancelled it in the end .__.
paper 2 was okay,
just that i’m pretty sure i failed the last compre terribly.
my answers were all repeats,
which shouldn’t be the case.
gah.
and i nearly didn’t have time to complete the paper,
which is quite shocking.

i started work on wednesday,
but was sick on thursday and friday.
actually i was already sick since monday,
just that it got worse towards the end of the week.
so I didn’t go to work on those 2 days.
i shan’t blog about work,
since i’m already supposed to do a stupid journal about it.

on saturday we went to my cousins' house for fun.
keegan was there in the afternoon too!
he's much louder now,
and his gibberish is so adorable!
and he speaks with an ang moh accent.
my cousin says it's probably from all the channel news asia he watches.
lol.
i took lots of cute pictures of him (:
apparently he cried when he went home because he missed us xD
the cake we bought to celebrate marcus and jordan's birthdays kinda messed up;
the top layer of strawberry jam-thing slid off the centre of the cake,
so it just looked like gloop.
haha.
but the strawberry cheesecake from cedele was quite good.

oh and this week i’ve started to re-watch lots of TERENCE CAO dramas on tudou (:
that’s the highlight of the day every day.
i was watching the last 5 episodes of the reunion 顶天立地 on sunday evening.
it's freaking awesome.
you should watch it if you haven't.
serious.
and i just realised today that channel 8's re-running on weekdays at 11am!
last time i wanted to email them to request,
but i never got to doing it.
it's really good.
mum and jordan was exceptionally excited about the ending,
so we were all watching the last 2 episodes together from the imac.
and then i was watching making miracles 奇迹 too.
i love that show.

these channel 8 dramas really played a huge part in my childhood,
that's why i'm so crazy about them,
just in case you were wondering.

29 October 2009

please pardon any typos;
i don't like using the imac keyboard.
it's too soft.

i originally wanted to post this post yesterday,
but i was too tired after the soh rehearsal,
so i'm blogging it now.

i left halfway through physics lesson to go to acjc with michelle to sell sounds of hope tickets.
the sales were quite bad.
we didn't sell a single one because they were having a levels,
and $20 was too ex,
even for a rich student.
but we did get some donations though,
so at least it wasn't a totally wasted trip.
we ended up using our yellow mounting board sign to shelter ourselves from the rain when we came back.
arrived just in time for the rocs meeting.

after school i met shannon (sister) at the bamboo courtyard for a run.
we actually planned to run 12 rounds,
but i told her 9 rounds.
we were going strong for the first few rounds,
but i had to keep asking her to slow down because she runs too fast.
PLUS the fact that she runs around the track like every week.
PLUS the fact that i stupidly went to drink water before the run and ended up with a stitch.
PLUS the fact that i forgot to do warm-ups.
PLUS the fact that the last time i went on the track was like 2 months ago?
or more.
so yeah,
i should learn from that.
and loud noisy music does not help one's morale.
this linkin park song came on while i was running.
it was rather irritating.
in the end i only managed 8 rounds (2.4km),
while shannon did another 2 (3km).
how embarrassing.
i need to train more before run for hope!
if not i'll lag behind,
and that'll really be embarrassing.

went home and rested for a while before going back to school for soh technical rehearsal.
literally half our handbell choir was absent from the rehearsal,
because all the sec 2's were at rocs.
the songs sounded quite terrible,
and we just couldn't get under the sea right after 5 failed attempts at practising.
i was so stressed.
especially since mrs soo would get quite irritated with every small blunder.
when we were going on stage,
she was like so pissed,
while all the other teachers (e.g. ms ho, ms tsien) were all so relaxed.
-.-
from the feedback i got,
my tempo was quite consistent.
which is good lah.
i really hope tomorrow's full-dress rehearsal will be better.
if not mrs aw will be staring daggers at me on saturday evening.

as if got not enough stress already,
i'm in the sounds of hope publicity comm,
i have to arrange the logistics for our whole cca for that night,
i have a stupid theory exam just a few hours before the sounds of hope thing on saturday,
and chinese o levels is just 2 weeks away.
i feel so depressed.

on a brighter note,
i was taking a look at the ngee ann poly brochure in the library.
the more i read about what they do in fms,
the more i want to go there and take fvs.
i really really want to.
they said that their students actually go on to study in canada and usa,
getting their bachelor in fine arts degree,
which is what i'm ultimately aiming for.
when i get my bfa,
i'll be the happiest person in the world :D
if i eventually end up furthering my studies and getting a masters in fine arts,
of course i'll be happier lah,
but for now a bachelor's is a high enough aim for me.
but like what charlotte said,
the school would hate me for it.
sighs.
it's just all about the grades,
isn't it?
nothing else matters more than getting good results and going to a good jc,
not even your passion.

26 October 2009

i missed the NIKE HUMAN RACE on saturday,
because i found out about registration a tad too late.
shucks.
it's alright;
claudia optimistically reminded me that i now have a whole year more to train for it.
10km is no joke.
i'm quite sure the 4km for RUN FOR HOPE will already be a challenge for it.
i'm never exactly in the best shape after i'm done with x-country.
but it's alright;
what matters is that i'm able to finish the race.
the longest time you can take for the NIKE HUMAN RACE is 2h,
before the sweeper vehicle comes to pick you up and fetch you to the finishing line,
which i think is quite reasonable.
mr ong said he completed in under an hour,
but then again,
he runs on a regular basis.
nevermind,
i shall just concentrate on training for it now (:
(anyone knows where i can get those arm-strap pouches for handphone or mp3?)

25 October 2009

this post is dedicated to laoshi!

on friday afternoon i had handbells,
but because i didn't have to practise during the 2nd half of practice,
i went up to the staffroom to look for liang laoshi to settle some admin matters.
when that was done,
i went to the staircase,
then i saw wu laoshi at the opposite staircase talking to some students.
i waved to her,
but she didn't see me,
so i decided to walk there and say hi.
(just in case she kicks up a fuss again like the last time.)
so i went there and said hi,
then she asked me about whether the class has been cleared.
by then it was about 4+pm,
so i told her it should have been cleared.
just to make sure,
i went up with her to check.
the classroom was already arranged properly,
and the doors were locked.
liz still had some papers under her table,
which made laoshi go,
"hai. na ge xu hui fan arh.."
haha.
i also realised our lunchbox day photo was left on one of the tables D:
on our way down,
laoshi randomly asked me why i was running around.
i told her that i came up to see liang laoshi.
she asked if it was regarding handbells.
i said yes.
then she asked me,
"ni dui ni de cheng ji man yi ma?"
haha i was kinda expecting that question sooner or later.
i told her that i got a b4,
and that it has always been like that since last year.
my grades hover around the b region,
sometimes i drop to c.
i told her that there was like an invisible ceiling,
preventing me from breaking through and getting an a.
laoshi said,
"bu yao yi zhi gao su ni zi ji ni bu ke yi breakthrough;
yao gao su ni zi ji ni ke yi de!"
then she went on and on about how this year was an "adapting year",
and how next year will definitely be better.
as usual,
i'll continue unknowingly expressing my lack of self-confidence,
so laoshi continued standing there giving me a motivational talk.
haha it was quite a sight to see actually.
she was standing at the top of the stairwell,
and i was on the lower platform,
and we were talking like that.
anyway,
i really want to thank laoshi for being so understanding this whole year,
giving me tips on how i can improve and trying to motivate me.
though my grades are about the same as last year,
i know i have improved because of her.

thanks laoshi!!

i have brilliant marks.
well done, carmen.
you are such a smart person -.-

english- :\ a2
elementary maths- :) a1
additional maths- :) a2
higher chinese- :\ b4
literature- :( c5
combined humanities- :) a2
biology- :( c5
physics- :) a2
chemistry- :( c5

which gives me an L1R5 of 13 points.
carmen, you are a pure genius.
even if you -4 points at the end,
you'll still get 9 points.
awesome job.
maybe you were really meant to go to poly.

BUCK UP LAH YOU.

on a brighter note,
e maths and a maths results were quite a shocker.
i was expecting to get b's.
if you told me last year that i would get distinctions for my sec 3 eoys for both e and a maths,
i'd laugh.
thanks jie wen for all the help!
and i topped the class for english compo (:
i thought my essay about "chicken" was really low-standard,
with simple english and childish plot.
who would've thought the marker liked it.
i really wasn't expecting to get what i got for physics,
especially since the paper was so terribly hard.
i was quite pleased with ss,
though i didn't do extremely well;
i thought my links were terribly weak.
a pity my geog pulled the ss mark down.

let's face the facts though;
i must work on my way of answering the chem questions,
because apparently i always leave out keywords,
costing me my marks.
for bio,
i was expecting to get at least an b3.
i think if i studied more about photosynthesis than blood,
i could have scored better.
shit.
chinese i give up already.
i really dunno what more i can do.
i'm forever hovering at the b3-b4 range.
it's damn irritating that no matter how hard you try,
you can never break through the invisible ceiling.
literature i also dunno how to help myself already,
except that i must remind myself not to panic,
and read the questions carefully.
